NY nurse accused of stealing medical devices

The Nassau County District Attorney recently announced the arrest of a nurse from Queens. The nurse allegedly stole over $30,000 in medical equipment from a local hospital. The allegations have led to charges of third-degree grand larceny.

What evidence did the government use to support these charges? The government is basing the allegations on two primary pieces of evidence.

  • Medical equipment on E-bay. The government has accused the nurse of selling the medical equipment online. Pieces of medical equipment were available on E-bay. The hospital conducted an investigation. This investigation found the devices were sold between August 8, 2016 and February 16, 2017. The hospital employed the nurse during this period of time.
  • NY return address. The government also has evidence the products sold on E-bay were shipped from a location in Queens, NY.

What are the repercussions of these charges? The nurse faces serious repercussions based on these charges. First, the hospital administration chose to fire the nurse from his job. He no longer is able to provide care and earn a living based on these allegations. Second, the nurse is also under additional investigation which could lead to the revocation of his nursing license. Third, he faces a criminal conviction. This could include monetary fines and potential imprisonment.

These repercussions impact the nurse’s ability to continue in his profession. This case provides an example of the long reach of these types of charges.
