In the Sunset Committee’s most recent review of the Board of Nursing, it was established that Texas Peer Assistance Program for Nurses (TPAPN) is too rigid and cannot be modified depending on the specific needs of a nurse.
The Committee determined that TPAPN should be more flexible, and in some cases, shorter than 3 years, to be in line with a nurse’s diagnoses. It was also determined that the Board should create a formal process to allow students an opportunity for re-evaluation of participation in peer assistance upon initial licensure.
Also, the Board is to implement a waiver of program for declaratory orders that can be implemented if a student has achieved a satisfactory period of treatment or documented sobriety. Call us if you believe you are eligible to be released from your Confidential TPAPN order.
