TX nurse accused of causing stroke-like injuries to patients

A registerd nurse that has cared for patients at Christus Mother Frances Hospital - Tyler and at Louis and Peaches Owen Heart Hospital in Tyler faces criminal charges. He is accused of intentionally introducing air into the patients' circulatory systems. This can lead to an air embolism and cause a stroke.

The RN is allegedly responsible for the death of one patient and a sudden decline from stable health into a vegetative state of two other patients.

Nurse denies allegations - fights to get nursing license back

The nurse denies these allegations. He states the incident was the result of a "misunderstanding." The Texas Board of Nursing met to review the results of the nurse's investigation. The board decided to suspend his license and upheld four charges against the nurse.

Three charges involved the nurse entering the room of a patient that was not under his care and providing "unskilled and/or unnecessary and/or inappropriate" intervention. The intervention allegedly resulted in deterioration of the patient's condition. The nurse allegedly did not communicate his actions with the patient to the assigned nurse.

The board also claims that he did not document these interactions.

A fourth interaction allegedly led to the death of the patient. When questioned about the incident, He stated that he silenced a beeping IV and "pumped up a pressure bag and took other actions" to aid the patient.  The patient suffered a cortical acute ischemic infarction that led to the patient's death.

The RN is fighting the charges and the suspension of his license. A strong license defense can make the difference between keeping and losing your nursing license. An attorney with experience in these matters can help build this defense.
